From Sunscreen to Sweat: Best Ways to Care for Your Latest Lawn Collection

Summer is fast approaching and so are relaxing days lounging by the poolside or sunbathing on the beach. The hot weather brings heat and humidity, both of which turn a simple task like running errands on a summer afternoon into an incredibly unpleasant experience.

It wears you out physically and creates nasty sweat stains that are a pain to get rid of. And while SPF is great, the cream can stain your new Khaadi kameez, leaving large white patches.

Fabrics of Summer

Lawn is the most commonly worn fabric in the summer season as it is lightweight and breathable. It allows air to flow through the fibers and keep cool, even when sweating. Every summer, ‘lawn season’ takes Pakistan by storm with designer lawn collections selling out in a matter of minutes.

Brands like Sapphire, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J. and more are frontrunners in this lawn extravaganza as women flock to their sales. From pret wear to unstitched three-piece suits consisting of a shalwar, kameez, and dupatta, the latest lawn collection are all the rage every summer.

Lawn clothes are comfortable but despite how easy-to-wear they are, the fabric is still not able to fully repel sweat away. Sweat stains form primarily on the back and underarms and can be embarrassing and difficult to remove.

Caring for Lawn Clothes

Since lawn is a type of cotton fabric, lawn clothes need to be cared for and washed very attentively to keep them clean, long-lasting, and smelling fresh in the summer.

Cotton usually has rougher fibers and is cheap to produce, unlike lawn which is expensive and has gentler fibers, giving it a sheer, almost transparent look. If you’re unsure about how to wash your designer lawn suits this summer, we have compiled a short guide to tell you how.

Use Cold Water

We highly recommend washing your latest lawn collection using cold water instead of hot or warm water. This keeps the colors bright, ensuring the dye is locked in and preventing the fabric from shrinking during laundry. Using hot water can shorten the lifespan of your garments, so be careful while doing laundry.

Gentle Wash Cycle

While we would advise you to handwash lawn garments, you can also wash them in the washing machine at a ‘gentle’ wash cycle to prevent shrinkage. If your suits have any embellishment or embroidery which may be ruined by coming into contact with other laundry, handwash it instead. Remember to follow the instructions on the laundry label for better guidance about how each garment is to be treated.

Detergent Formulated for Delicate Clothes

Don’t use your standard laundry detergent while washing lawn clothes and instead opt for a detergent specially formulated for delicate garments. Lawn fibers are not very resilient and can easily get damaged when using a hard laundry detergent, reducing the fabric’s lifespan and making it unwearable.

Air-Dry Your Lawn

You can tumble dry your lawn clothes at the lowest dryer setting but take them out while they’re slightly damp and use a low-heat iron to dry them and remove any wrinkles. However, it is best to line-dry or air-dry lawn to it them looking good and prevent wrinkles from forming. Don’t leave them out in the sun for too long, though, as it can cause their colors to fade quite easily.
